Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Subject: - mdbtools, OpenOffice.org and unixodbc

Hi,

I have unixodbc working fine with MySQL and OpenOffice. I recently found out about mdbtools (from this list) and have installed it. I can use the command line tools, such as mdb-sql and mdb-export, with a test MS Access database. I have also added it to odbcinst.ini and .odbc.ini (by hand) and can get the access database to appear in OOo as a data source. It cannot, however, show me tables or allow me to use SQL.

I also want to be able to work with Access databases in a statistical progamming language called R. The RODBC package that comes with R works well with unixODBC and MySQL. It does not work with the Access driver.

I have set up a tracefile. Connecting to MySQL from OOo gives me a "Connection out" with a DSN etc. Connecting from OOo to the Access database gives me:

[ODBC][1985][SQLDriverConnect.c][1389]
Exit:[SQL_SUCCESS] Connection Out [[][length = 0 (SQL_NTS)]]

Connecting to the Access database from R gives me a "Connection out" with length = 16 but the content is a whole load non-printable/control /garbage characters (e.g. e-acute, CTRL-A. etc).

I'm no hacker and there is probably not much more I can figure out on my own. Is this something I should be discussing with people on this list or is it a problem with the driver that I should discuss with the mdbtools list?

Thanks.

Dave
