Still, you probably should have '-L/usr/local/lib' on the gcc line. What is $LDFLAGS? In your case, it appears that LDFLAGS='-L/usr/local/lib' would be appropriate. The '-R' option is used by the linker and does not help the compiler find libraries. I use LD_OPTIONS to set the '-R' option. Alex
