RE: FW: Question: msg#00174db.tds.freetds
I did reply to this on tuesday... as follows: Hey Richard, I need to clarify your requirement, so... My understanding of your requirement is as follows: 1) do I take it that you now wish to communicate with a SQL server database instead of Sybase ? 2) you have legacy "scripts" that use isql.exe. what kind of scripts ? shell scripts, batch files ? on Windows or UNIX ? If I read you right, my experience may help... I have migrated applications from Sybase to SQL server that include large numbers of shell scripts that incorporate the Sybase isql program and/or the bcp program. My strategy has been to : 1) install freetds 2) install sqsh 1.7 from www.sqsh.org, compile against the freetds libraries/include files 3) replace calls to "isql" in my shell scripts to call "sqsh" instead (the interface is, to all intents and purposes, identical) 4) replace calls to "bcp" in my shell scripts to call "freebcp" instead (again, the interface is in most respects identical) sqsh compiled against freetds will work equally well against both Sybase & SQL server. Ditto freebcp HTH, If I've misunderstood your requirement, please clarify...
