Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation. more...

I'm new to the list, but also running RH9 and freetds-0.61-2.i386.rpm
against an MS SQL Server back end...

Per the advice in the FreeTDS Use Guide, you need to isolate this
rather more, I think. See http://www.freetds.org/support. The link to
Chapter 7 of the User Guide on that page is broken, it should be to

http://www.freetds.org/userguide/c2374.htm

Here are my suggested questions to work towards resolving this:

Q1. Can you telnet from the RH9 machine to that host on port 4444?

Q2. Can you use tsql to connect from RH9 to that SQL server?

Q3. Can you use SQSH to connect from RH9 to that SQL Server?

Q4. What are the contents of your /etc/freetds.conf file?

To me, this feels like a routing/firewalling issue, not a freetds one.

I hope this helps,

Jonathan
