viewing text columns from mysql

When using the mysql command line tool, and I select a "text" type
column, the output is in a readable format.

When using squirrel version 2.5.1 that same column is displayed in
Hex. I can double click on this field and select "Show ASCII as
chars".

Is there anyway to have the whole column display with "Show ASCII as chars"  ?
