data types

Hi everyone:

 

This is my first post on the list.

 

I have a mysql (4.0.1) database that I use to track the pedigree of dogs.

 

I have just begun to use ReKall (2.2) with a table called ancestry, in which the fields

 

are named 1, color_1, reg_num_1..........and so one up to 14, this works fine for

 

mysql.

 

In the fields with the numerical names rekall will not accept a text entry(name of dog).

 

Giving an error that say the entry isn't a valid number.

 

Using the table designer rekall allows you to enter a reg _expression_ for data validation, and

 

I tried various things in the validator entry , . , .*, and some expressions that contained full ranges

 

of characters, I can't remember the syntax and am not at my machine.

 

The handbook says there is a way around this using the validator input, but does not go into

 

detail about how to accomplish this.

 

I can rename the fields spelling out the numbers and everything works fine, I would rather not

 

do it this way.

 

Any ideas on what I may be missing.
