Can't call method "can_read"

Munin-node is dying on a new installation with the message in the log: 

Can't call method "can_read" on an undefined value at
/usr/share/perl5/Net/Server/Fork.pm line 188.

I suspect something (maybe a perl module?)  is missing in the
installation, but I do not know what.  This is on Debian Sarge.
