RE: error message with trying to connect to 4.1.5 server odbc: msg#00015db.mysql.odbc
Interesting... I will follow up when I get time. However, if you beat me to it then I'd be delighted to know. Cheers, Charles. -----Original Message----- From: Markus Grossrieder [mailto:markus.grossrieder@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, 05 October 2004 11:00 AM To: myodbc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: Charles Rethman; 'ana maría alvarez v.' Subject: Re: error message with trying to connect to 4.1.5 server odbc Hi, I seem to remember that there is an option (something like --use_old_password) in 4.1.x which resets the password checking to the old behaviour - so before anything else, I would dig in the archive ... Basically, version 4.1. has some new password authentication protocol that is not yet supported by MyODBC version 3.51. The problem only comes about if you use a password to access your server. You have two choices: 1. You can create a new user on the server with a blank password. When MyODBC version 3.52 comes along (MySQL AB are keeping very mum on when that will be) you upgrade to that (although, from experience, I would recommend using the "beta" version as "alpha" versions tend to be unstable) and then you can add passwords as much as you like. This is fine if, like me, you are still in development and can wait; but if you have an application out there with users you will have to take option 2. 2. Downgrade your server to version 4.0. MyODBC works fine (apparently) with version 4.0's password authentication. You lose out on some of the nice new features of version 4.1. (like embedded SELECTs) but hey, that's the compromise. Best regards, Charles Rethman. -----Original Message----- From: ana maría alvarez v.
