RE: error message with trying to connect to 4.1.5 server odbc: msg#00013

db.mysql.odbc

Subject: RE: error message with trying to connect to 4.1.5 server odbc

Dear Patrick,

I had the same problem. Basically, version 4.1. has some new password
authentication protocol that is not yet supported by MyODBC version 3.51.
The problem only comes about if you use a password to access your server.
You have two choices:

1. You can create a new user on the server with a blank password. When
MyODBC version 3.52 comes along (MySQL AB are keeping very mum on when that
will be) you upgrade to that (although, from experience, I would recommend
using the "beta" version as "alpha" versions tend to be unstable) and then
you can add passwords as much as you like. This is fine if, like me, you are
still in development and can wait; but if you have an application out there
with users you will have to take option 2.

2. Downgrade your server to version 4.0. MyODBC works fine (apparently) with
version 4.0's password authentication. You lose out on some of the nice new
features of version 4.1. (like embedded SELECTs) but hey, that's the
compromise.

Best regards,

Charles Rethman.

Using sever 3.x do not have problem but with server 4.1.5 saying
protocal not supported by this server upgrade to move to more recent
client (have 3.51.9).the envireoment is window 2k with service pk4. Is
this a problem which I can resolve or do i need to wait for the next
release.
