error : make test

Hello,

I've tried to install mysql 4.0.1 Alpha.
The configuration did not give me any error's
The "make" also worked just fine.
But when I run "make test" I get the following error:

ERROR: /down/new/mysql-4.0.1-alpha/mysql-test/var/run/master.pid was not
created in 30 seconds;  Aborting
make: *** [test] Error 1


My config line is:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --enable-large-files
--without-debug --with-mysqld-user=mysql


I hope some one can help me.
