You are not alone in finding .51 to have performance issues. I have not built it myself (I have gcc3) and am glad to hear that there is a way around things. What is your queries per second? I have a feeling that the problem only becomes noticeable if the there is a medium amount of load (say 1500+ QPS). MySQL people: Is there a way for us to build .51 exactly as you do, so we can try and figure out what is going on?
