[help] cannot connect to mysql server on linux from client on SunOS 5.6

i am running mysql-4.0.9-gamma on Linux,
and trying to connect to the mysql server from client running on SunOS
5.6.(the same version of mysql)
but i can't. the mysql server on Linux *crashes* on connected from client on
SunOS 5.6.
it works fine, if the client is on Linux.

How can i solve this problem?
it's very urgent to me. please help me....
