Build Problems on Mandrake 9.0

I apologize if this is a re-post, I just signed up for the list.

With a default installation of the new GNU/Linux Mandrake 9.0 including
MySQL and libmysql development libraries packaged with the distribution,
mysql++ 1.7.9 will not compile suffering from several compiler errors.

The new distribution uses GCC 3.2; however, I tried a few little things and
installed 2.96 from the distribution and changed a few commands in the
makefile to attempt to make it use 2.96 to no avail.
