(back again) no, the log is probably not the problem because I have switched it off (for the time being). knldiag and knldiag.err don't offer any more infos. Still the same: after sending off the CREATE INDEX... I have frantic disc-activity for about 5 minutes. kernel grabs about 250 MB of RAM and uses up to 10% CPU. Then nothing...
