7.6.00.5 install error

I previously had 7.5.00.23 installed, uninstalled it (which was problematic
and the details of it I could not recount by now) and recently attempted
installation of 7.6.00.5.  Once I'm to the progress bar screen "MaxDB
Installation, Software settings, Doing update check of package Server
Utilites, " the progress meter goes to about 4% and says "Testing installed
valid package..." and an error msgbox pops up as follows:

getInstalledReleasesWin(): wrong version format
installation exited abnormally at Sa, Feb 19, 2005 at 19:06:39

[OK]

This happens every time.  I am continuing to locate and remove 7.5.x
references in the registry, but I am running out of ways to remove 7.5.
I've been to http://sapdb.2scale.net/moin.cgi/WindowsUninstall but I still
need someone to tell me what else is hanging this up, cause all those
options have been exhausted long ago.
