Yes, newer glibc ebuilds install two version of the glibc, as every 
major distro does, but they aren't marked stable yet :-(

I remember, that one SAP developer (i think it was Daniel Dittmar) once 
said, that he tried and SAPDB/MaxDB did cleanly compile on NPTL systems. 
But apparently it does not :-(
