knldiag.err only contains those two lines:
2005-01-21 18:54:05 24375 ERR 52123 RESTORE  (db-id of importing host)
2005-01-21 18:54:05 24375 ERR 52124 RESTORE  (db-id of exporting host)
(and a third line indicating a permission denied when it was tried to 
rewind the file)

medium_label exportlog on the exportinghost says (among other)
Database ID   (db-id of exporting host)

medium_labeloffline importlog 001 on the importing host says
Database ID   (db-id of exporting host)

the very same. not much of a suprise. did you look for some other 
information?

...or is it wrong for the importing host to have its own db-id?

if that makes a difference: the importing host accesses the exporting 
host via NFS.
