Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation. more...

Does someone tried HotStandby on Linux/Unix?: msg#00243

Subject: Does someone tried HotStandby on Linux/Unix?

Hi,

I've problems to get 2 Systems in the HotStandby state.

My post from 29. November isn't answered and I've tried to compile myself.
"imf all" don't create packages and "imf complete" compiles but do not finish
successfully (problems with perl gtk but I don't need gtk install on a
console).

So I copied the files over a 7.5.00.19 installation, repaired some file
attributes (is there a script in the installer who can help at this point?) and
tried, tried, tried.

After a long try&error method the command hss_addstandby needed a longer time
and I thought Ohh, it will work, but it stopped and on Master system the
Database files are gone away :-/ ... but I couldn't create a new DB with the
new compiled MaxDB :-(

So some questions:

The logfile needs to be shared between both nodes ... but why is /path_to_log or
./path_to_log not allowed and rejected with "Isn't reachable ..."? Does maxDB
knows more then I configured my system? The file is on both
view/write/readable.

So do I need to bring both nodes offline to make the logfile a symlink on both
and bring Master and Slave back?

Or, if the name of the DB is "testdb", should the complete wrk/testdb directory
shared between both (I thought not, cause both nodes should have there own
database files)

What are the commandos for the cluster software to bring a Master to die and a
slave to be master? "db_offline" on master and "db_online" on slave? How is
reintegration managed?

Many questions and I hope for answers.

Greetings Alex//

PS: Is there an IRC channel besides irc.freenode.org/sapdb with only 2 persons?
