FMPro on the web: msg#00483

Subject: FMPro on the web
I have a friend who has a small business as a broker selling canal boats. He has an FMPro d/b of all the boats, and would like people to search the website by certain parameters (size, price, geographical location, boat type etc).

He's currently using version 6 and a Mac with OS 9.2. He's never used FMPro on the web at all. The last time I had anything to do with FileMaker on the web was with version 4.

I have a few questions, which are very general.

If all he needs is a little bit of help, I'm happy to offer it. But if it turns out to be beyond him, and he needs someone to do it for him, obviously I would charge him for that. Unless I know how difficult it is, it's hard to say.

How difficult would it be for me, with 15 years FMPro experience, and about six years experience of HTML/XHTML, CSS etc, to do something like this? (I appreciate the how-long-is-a-piece-of-string nature of this question!)

What would be a good book for learning about putting an FMPro database (either version 6, 7, or 8) online?

And would he be better off using commercial FileMaker hosting, or getting FMPro Server Advanced and doing it himself?

Can anyone point me to any FMPro-driven websites with about the same level of complexity that I could show him?

Thanks

Colm
