Subject: [Dbworld] CfP: Workshop on P2P and Agent Infrastructures for Knowledge

Call for Papers:
Workshop on Peer-to-Peer and Agent Infrastructures
for Knowledge Management

Workshop @ WM2005
3rd Conference Professional Knowledge Management
Experiences and Visions, April 10-13, 2005

Call for Papers IT infrastructures that build on centralized
information systems architectures, e.g. Web servers, have shown
their benefits in many situations. Typically, they are successful
to support knowledge management when knowledge processes are
comparatively rigid and when it is easy to estimate the value of
knowledge to be contributed to such a centralized repository.
Unfortunately, knowledge-intensive work frequently exhibits some
different characteristics:

* It happens sporadically;
* It is not tightly embedded in standardized processes or knowledge
structures;
* It often includes new domains of interest for the knowledge worker;
* It requires a lot of ad-hoc interaction with other knowledge workers;
* Its value is hard to assess, and it will end up in a set of
best-practices only after a long time.

Consequently, such knowledge-intensive work and best practices are
often not easily accessible by the knowledge worker's organisation
and a lot of redundant work may be performed in the organisation.
Peer-to-Peer and Agent Infrastructures serve the needs of
knowledge workers for a more flexible knowledge sharing
environment adapted to their personal needs and up-to-date with
regard to ad-hoc knowledge provided by others. They integrate
various technologies, e.g., ontologies for knowledge sharing and
reuse, collaboration support like CSCW systems, and personalized
information services to deal with issues such as:

* manifold logically and physically dispersed actors and knowledge sources,
* different degrees of formalization of knowledge,
* different kinds of (web-based) services and (legacy) systems,
* conflicts between local (individual) and global (group or organizational)
goals.

In this workshop we invite contributions which illustrate
methodological, technical and application aspects of Peer-to-Peer
and Agent Infrastructures for Knowledge Management. Topics of
interest include:

* Methodology for Peer-to-Peer and Agent Infrastructures for KM
* Analysis and Design Methods
* Relationship to Agent-oriented Software Engineering
* Relationship to Agent-oriented Software Engineering
* Functionalities in Distributed KM Systems
* File Sharing
* Distributed Organizational Memories
* Ontology Negotiation and Ontology Lifecycle Management
* Group Formation and Awareness
* Supporting Social Processes (Trust, Reputation)
* Collaborative Information Retrieval
* Emergent Semantics and Pervasive Semantics
* Implementation of Peer-to-Peer and Agent Infrastructures
* Architectures and Platforms for Socially Enabled Agents
* Distributed Knowledge Representation and Reasoning for Socially
Enabled Agents
* Practical application examples for (aspects of) AMKM systems
* Case Studies of Peer-to-Peer and Agent-based KM
* Benefits and reasons for the application of the agent paradigm to KM
* Evaluation of Peer-to-Peer and Agent-based systems

In particular, we welcome contributions about up-and running
systems and practices.

Intended Audience
The workshop is intended not only for academic
and industry researchers but also for practitioners and managers
who are not satisfied with technical infrastructures to knowledge
management that appear to be too rigid for daily needs. Thus, we
appreciate reports that show where rigid approaches failed in
particular and what requirements they rise for more flexible
approaches relevant to this workshop.
