PhD position - Open Replication of Databases

Description:

The project aims at developing an open database replication platform for
large-scale systems. We intend to combine theoretical and practical
methodologies to develop database replication protocols based on group
communication for large-scale systems. The position is funded by the European
Commission in the context of a project involving research institutes in Europe
and the US, and a major open source database company. The initial appointment
will be for 3 years, starting in October 2004 or later, with possible
prolongation. There is travel funding in case of papers accepted at important
conferences. Working language is English.

The Universita della Svizzera italiana is the youngest Swiss university,
comfortably installed in the city of Lugano in Ticino, the scenic southernmost
canton of Switzerland. Lugano is an hour by train from Milan and a couple of
hours from Zurich. The region hosts several other research and teaching
institutes, such as the Swiss Centre for Scientific Computing (CSCS), the Dalle
Molle Institute for the Study of Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA), the Institute
of Research in Biomedicine (IRB), and the University of Applied Sciences of
Ticino (SUPSI).
