WAIM2004 Call for Papers 5th International Conference on Web-Age Information Management July 15-17, 2004, Dalian, China http://www.neu.edu.cn/waim2004 Scope of Conference With advances in the Internet and, in particular, various tech-nologies around the World-Wide Web over the past years, research on design, implementation, and management of Internet and Web-based information systems has become increasingly important. As more and more information of diverse types becomes available on the Internet and Web, and query and retrieval as well as the man-agement of information over the Internet become more complex and extremely difficult. Nowadays, the anywhere/anytime/any means paradigm is becoming the challenge in conceiving, designing, and releasing next generation information systems. New technologies, like Wi-fi networks and 3rd generation mobile phones, are offering the infrastructure to conceive information systems as ubiquitous information systems, that is, systems that are accessible from any-where, at any time, and with any device. Novel approaches to de-velop and manage the new Internet and Web information systems are in high demand. The WAIM series of conferences continue its good tradition, aiming to provide a unique forum for researchers, professionals, and industrial practitioners from around the world to share their rapidly evolving knowledge and to report on new advances in Web-based information systems. The previous WAIM conferences have been held in Shanghai (WAIM00), Xi'an (WAIM01), Bejing (WAIM02) and Chengdu, China (WAIM03). These conferences turned out to be very successful and each attracted more than 100 participants from all over the world. You are invited to submit original technical papers in English reporting recent results in database and related fields. Both research papers and experience and application papers are welcome. In addi-tion, papers (both regular and short) from the industry sector are also invited, in addition to demos and posters (see below). Topics of Interest * Advanced applications of databases * Agent technology and information management * Biological and genome information systems? * Cooperative information systems * Data and information quality * Data management for pervasive environment * Data migration and integration * Data mining and knowledge discovery * Data and Web warehousing * Data Security * Database languages and semantics * Databases and electronic commerce * Design of databases and data warehouses * Emerging Web techniques * Financial and engineering databases * Internet and web-based data management * Interoperability and heterogeneous systems * Location dependent data management * Metadata use and management * Multidimensional databases and OLAP * Multimedia information systems * Parallel and distributed database systems * Performance and benchmarking * Query processing and optimisation * Semantic web * Storage management and access methods * Spatial and temporal databases * Text database and information retrieval * Transaction management * Visualizing the structure and content of databases * Web and database technology * Workflow and E-services * XML and Semi-structured data * Peer-to-peer data management * Mobile data management Submission Guidelines The proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in the LNCS(Lecture Notes in Computer Science, http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/index.html) series. Springer-Verlag publishes a full-text electronic ver-sion of LNCS in parallel with the printed version, so the electronic source of accepted papers will be required (LaTeX 2e format is pre-ferred). Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit ex-tended versions for possible publication in an international journal. Authors should submit original manuscripts via the WAIM 2004 Web site, as PostScript or PDF files. Papers may not exceed 5000 words. Use at least an 11-point font and no more than 20 double-spaced pages. (Typically published papers are 14 pages in LNCS format.) The LNCS Authors Instructions subpage(http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html) contains further details.
