CIDR 2005 Call for Papers: msg#00150db.dbworld
CIDR Call for Papers Second Conference on Innovative Data Systems Research Asilomar, CA. January 4-7, 2005 http://www-db.cs.wisc.edu/cidr/ Purpose: CIDR offers a venue for innovative data systems architectures, as well as a prestigious publication opportunity. CIDR does not compete with the established conferences presenting rigorous treatises in established areas; rather its goal is to air radically new ideas. Such papers are typically speculative or are system evaluations. The visionary papers usually lack rigorous frameworks, simulations of performance, or prototype implementations but present a radical departure from conventional approaches that enables new applications. The prototype descriptions generally are a detailed report on successes and mistakes. The other major DBMS conferences usually reject such submissions because they are not scientific. However, these are often the very papers that offer long term value to the field, and should be widely disseminated. The conference is single-tracked. Proceedings will be published both as a website and in book form. The conference runs every-other year, typically in the fall or winter during non-HTPS years. Scope: Papers are invited on innovative and visionary approaches to data systems architecture and applications. Topics of interest include database systems, application servers, messaging systems, workflow, warehousing, data mining, data visualization, small-scale and large-scale systems, portal systems, and architectures that are particularly manageable, available, or scaleable. Especially encouraged are architectures for new application areas, and innovative data and system integration solutions. Also encouraged are papers on organizing and querying information on the web, large scale information fusion, knowledge discovery systems, data privacy and trust, peer-to-peer data management, and the integration of text, data, code and streams. Lastly, "war stories" on overcoming common problems are welcome. Organization: The conference is organized by the 27 people listed below who peer-review the submissions. The organizing committee is a continuing organization with rotating committee members. The conference is held every second year. Sponsorship: The CIDR conference is sponsored by the VLDB Foundation in co-operation with ACM SIGMOD. Papers: Submissions should not exceed 10,000 words; extended background and demos may be augmented by a website that will become part of the submission. Electronic submissions should be sent in camera-ready form to the chairman of the program committee, Mike Stonebraker (stonebraker-EfZU8u+QLuPQ0zkYpJWm5w@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) A submission that is not aligned with CIDR goals will be returned, with a suggestion to submit it to one of the established conferences. Submissions will be reviewed by at least three members of the organizing committee. To encourage only the best work, each person can be an author or co-author on only one submission. With a similar purpose in mind, each organizing committee member has agreed to submit her best work for consideration. Dates: Submissions are due by August 1, 2004. Authors will be notified of acceptance by October 15, 2004. Final versions are due December 1, 2004. Further information can be obtained from the program chairman. Organizing Committee: Anastassia Alimaki, Phil Bernstein, Mike Carey, Surajit Chaudhuri, Mitch Cherniack, Sophie Cluet, David Dewitt (general chair), Dana Florescu, Mike Franklin, Dieter Gawlick, Goetz Graefe, Jim Gray (ex-officio), Hector Garcia-Molina, Laura Haas, Alon Halevy, Joey Hellerstein, Martin Kersten, Donald Kossmann, Sam Madden, Renee Miller, Jeff Naughton, Hans Schek, Avi Silberschatz, Mike Stonebraker (PC-chair), Jennifer Widom, Gerhard Weikum (co-chair), and Stan Zdonik -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe or unsubscribe yourself from dbworld, send a msg to majordomo-hcNo3dDEHLuVc3sceRu5cw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with one of these lines: subscribe dbworld OR unsubscribe dbworld To find out more options send a msg with the line: help To post messages, go to URL www.cs.wisc.edu/dbworld -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
