*************************** CALL FOR PAPERS **********************************

Special Session on Multimedia Data Mining
at the 2004 International Conference
on Information and Knowledge Engineering (IKE 04)
Monte Carlo Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. June 21-24, 2004
Conference URL: http://www.world-academy-of-science.org

Brief Overview:
---------------
A significant amount of multimedia data are being generated every day. The
theme of this session is to explore growing research interest in Multimedia
Data Mining to extract and use the valuable information from these tremendous
amount of data. Multimedia Data Mining can be defined as a study to find
unknown knowledge and unique patterns in the multimedia data by reducing the gap
between the high-level semantics of media objects and the low-level features
extracted from them. We seek contributions to address the issues related to
mining multimedia information from multi-modality, multi-source, multi-format
data in an integrated way. Multimedia data appear in multiple forms, including
structured, numeric, text, video, image, speech, or combinations of several
types. Hybrid and integration of various techniques and methods are required
to mine the multimedia data.

Topics of Interest include but not limited to:
----------------------------------------------
- Mining of Medical Multimedia data.
- Multimedia data mining for Homeland Security.
- Multimedia data mining methods for e-Commerce.
- Topic and event detection in multimedia data.
- Mining of different data formats (text, speech, video, image, etc.) from
different sources.
- Data mining in multimedia information systems.
- Multimedia data mining methods for engineering and manufacturing.
- Mining scientific multimedia data.
- Multimedia data mining using MPEG-4 and MPEG-7 standards.
- Multimedia data clustering.
- Human-computer interactions for multimedia data mining.
- Frameworks for multimedia data mining.
- Analysis of multimedia mining algorithms.
- Real-time multimedia data mining systems.

Important Dates:
----------------
Feb. 16, 2004: Draft papers (7 page max.) due
March 22, 2004: Notification of acceptance
April 21, 2004: Camera-Ready papers & Prereg. due

Paper Submission:
-----------------
Prospective authors are invited to submit their draft paper (7 page max., single
space, double columns, 1 inch top, bottom, right and left margins, font size of
10 to 12) to JungHwan Oh (oh-h+uIrP2e9aOVc3sceRu5cw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) by the
due date. E-mail submissions in
MS document or PDF formats are preferable. Fax (817-272-3784) submissions are
also acceptable. The first page of the draft paper should include: title of the
paper, name, affiliation, postal address, E-mail address, telephone number, &
Fax number for each author. The first page should also include the name of the
author who will be presenting the paper (if accepted) & a maximum of 5 keywords.
The length of the Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will be limited to 7 (IEEE
style) pages. Papers must not have been previously published or currently
submitted for publication elsewhere.

Organizers:
----------
Dr. JungHwan Oh, The University of Texas at Arlington, USA.
(oh-h+uIrP2e9aOVc3sceRu5cw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)
Dr. Wallapak Tavanapong, Iowa State University, USA.

Review Process:
---------------
Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity, and soundness.
Each paper will be refereed by at least two researchers in the topical area.
The Camera-Ready papers will be reviewed by at one person.

Publication:
------------
The conference proceedings will be published by CSREA Press (ISBN) in hardcopy.
The proceedings will be available at the conference. Some accepted papers will
also be considered for journal publication (soon after the conference). All
conference proceedings published by CSREA Press are considered for inclusion in
major database indexes that are designed to provide easy access to the current
literature of the sciences (database examples: ISI Thomson Scientific, IEE
INSPEC, DBLP, ...).
