[Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message] CALL FOR PAPERS 1st Technical Session on Web Services Security (TSWSS'2004) Monte Carlo Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA (June 21-24, 2004) http://alarcos.inf-cr.uclm.es/tswss2004/ To be held in conjunction with The 2004 International Symposium on Web Services and Applications (ISWS'04: June 21-24, 2004, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA) http://www.world-academy-of-science.org Background and Goals Web Services represent tremendous benefits in terms of productivity, efficiency, and accuracy. But, while they offer attractive advantages, Web Services also present important risks relating to privacy and security. Web Services provide a way of exposing valuable data, applications, and systems to a variety of external threats. Although Web Services encourage the activity of new promising business, appropriate protection is a requirement for the success of these businesses. Terms such as Confidentiality, Integrity, Accountability, Availability, Authentication, Authorization, etc., assume a crucial role in the context of Web Services. This technical session will provide a forum to discuss the current state of the art and the practice in the field of web services security. A blend of researchers and practitioners from industry and academia is expected to share recent advances in the field, success or failure stories, lessons learned from actual world cases, and will seek out as yet unidentified fundamental problems arising in this field that will have chances to become good research opportunities. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to Secure Web Services Architectures Security and Privacy Issues in Web Services Applications Web Services Security Standards Metadata for Web Services Security Secure SOAP Messaging Secure UDDI Management XML Encryption and Digital Signatures Secure Web Services Orchestration Web Services Security Risk Management and Evaluation Actual Case Studies in Web Services Security Future Research Trends Format TSWSS'2004 aims to shed some light on recent research results and to point out future research directions that might interest not only the academic community but also industry. We consider two categories of papers: Regular Papers: 7-page IEEE-style publication in the proceedings. Short Papers: 4-page IEEE-style publication in the proceedings. All accepted paper will be included in the conference proceedings to be distributed to the participants. Journal Special Issue The organisers of the technical session and the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Internet Security (http://www.addsecure.net/JiSec/) have agreed to publish an special issue of the Journal, with extended and revised versions of some selected papers of this technical session. Rules for attending Potential attendees must submit papers in English. All submitted papers will be formally reviewed by the technical session organizers for originality, relevance, quality and clarity. All authors of accepted submissions will be invited to participate in the technical session. We especially encourage the submission of new ideas, even if not supported by validated research. All submissions must include the author(s) name, affiliation, phone, fax and e-mail address.
