2nd Call for Papers
INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON DATA AND INFORMATION QUALITY
-DIQ-
8th June 2004
Riga, Latvia

http://www.computing.dcu.ie/DIQ

in conjunction with
The 16th International Conference on
Advanced Information Systems Engineering

CAiSE '04

Important Dates:

Deadline for papers (received): February 27, 2004
Notification if acceptance: April 5, 2004
Deadline for Camera-ready copies: April 23, 2004
Workshop Date: June 8, 2004

Background and Rational:

The problem of insufficient quality of data and information is
widespread and is a critical issue for all organizations that
rely on information and knowledge. Insufficient quality of
information and data often leads to numerous negative effects:
it can disrupt business processes and delay or worsen decisions;
it can lead to confused communications between organisations or
might block creativity. High data and information quality have
become a decisive factor for networked organisations in the
information economy.

Currently, there are two main research streams addressing the
problem of ensuring high data and information quality: first
a technical, database oriented approach and second a management
or business oriented approach. Database-oriented research is
focused on technical aspects and database concepts and it
prevalently discusses topics in which distributed source databases
are integrated. Management oriented research in data and
information quality is focused on organisational aspects,
methods and techniques for managing the quality of data and
information. So far, both streams are fairly isolated addressing
similar problems. Problems regarding the interdependences between
technological choices and business concepts are rarely considered.
In this context, information system engineering brings both streams
together and addresses problems related to information system
design and modelling. Indeed Information system engineering focuses
on crucial and interrelated issues such as software applications,
information systems architectures and process modelling as well as
business implications correlated with data and information quality.
The international workshop on data and information quality concentrates
on this and attempts to bring research and practitioners together
enabling new and innovative research results on data- and
information-centric system engineering.

Objective:

The international workshop on data and information quality concentrates
on actionable research results and attempts to bring research and
practitioners together enabling new and innovative results on data-
and information-centric system engineering. In addition, the workshop
provides an excellent opportunity to establish international contacts
in the research community and it intends to stimulate collaborative
research efforts in data and information quality.

Relevant Topics:

The international workshop on data and information quality seeks
submissions, including applied and basic research papers, as
well as case studies that address various aspects of data
and information quality.

Areas of particular interest for the track include (but are not limited to):

-Defining DIQ
-DIQ management
-DIQ conceptual modeling
-DIQ strategy
-DIQ Assessment
-DIQ Improvement - processes and technologies
-DIQ and integration
-DIQ and coordination
-DIQ in IS-Engineering
-DIQ in Knowledge Management
-DIQ and Communication
-DIQ on the Internet
-Data mining & Data warehousing
-Intercultural issues in DIQ
-DIQ costs and benefits
-DIQ and trust
-DIQ and security/privacy
-Case studies and experiences
-DIQ in specific context:
-Financial service industry
-Logistics
-Health care
-Public sector

Submission Guidelines:

-Papers should not exceed 5,000 words. They must be original, and
not submitted to, or accepted by, any conference or journal. A
separate cover sheet should be enclosed containing the title of
the paper, the author(s) and affiliation(s), and the address
(including e-mail address and fax number) to which correspondence
should be sent. This is the only place where the names of the
authors should appear.

-All submissions should be made electronically to:
DIQ2004-j9mISXBebvq70S6Re0YL1A@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

-The workshop language is English.

Workshop Proceedings:

All submitted papers will be reviewed by a program committee.
Accepted papers will be published in the workshop proceedings.
Outstanding papers are recommended for publication as journal
articles (e.g. in a special issue on Data and Information Quality
of an international journal).
