Clustering Information over the Web

International Workshop in conjunction with
Int'l Conference on Extending Database Technology - EDBT 2004 -
http://www.edbt04.gr

Date/Location : March 14, 2004 / Heraklion - Crete, Greece

Summary
Web data management has become a critical emerging research area, due to the
exponential
increase in the information circulation and dissemination over the Web. Several
research efforts
have already appeared in the area of Web data mining and this field seems to be
of interest for
a wide academic and technical community. This workshop focuses on clustering
information
over the Web, as a mostly emerging topic in current web data mining efforts. It
will be important
to understand how the accessing to Web information (such as documents, link
paths, and users
on the Web), is benefited by employing clustering mechanisms and methodologies.

Aim and Scope
This workshop aims to attract contributions in relation to clustering
Web-related information towards:
* increasing Web information accessibility,
* decreasing lengths in Web navigation pathways,
* improving Web users requests servicing,
* integrating various data representation standards,
* extending current Web information organization practices.
New research ideas or practices in the above area are of high importance due to
the difficulties
raised by the diversity of Web data structure and representation, information
distribution,
communication and accessing costs. Overall, this workshop aims to host work in
some of the most
breaking topics, such as Web users clustering, clustering over Web graphs
structures, clustering
methods and Web performance, clustering towards Web data prefetching and
caching.

Topics
Research, experience as well as position papers are welcome towards exchanging
ideas and
perspectives of both researchers and practitioners.
Suggested topics include but are not limited to:
* Web users clustering
* clustering algorithms over Web graph structures
* clustering Web navigational patterns
* Web data clustering, storage management, and indexing
* clustering for caching and prefetching on the Web
* Web data representation patterns in clustering methodologies
* prediction models based on Web data classification
* Web users personalization
* the XML standard in Web data classification
* Web data knowledge extraction towards effective clustering
* Web resources discovery
* similarity search over Web navigational pathways
* probabilistic models and Web information clustering
* Web usage characterization
* directory services, and information management
* privacy and security over the Web
* Web metrics and measurements in relation to clustering and classification

Papers Submission
--------------------
Original (previously unpublished) papers must not exceed 12 pages in length and
should be submitted
electronically in Portable Document Format (.pdf) or PostScript (.ps) format,
sent to avakali-nS1Tg549IMhMo1R+fwTmgw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or to
pokorny@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Papers should be formatted according to the Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in
Computer Science (LNCS)
guidelines found at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html.

Accepted papers will be published in the Workshop Proceedings and
Post-proceedings
(with revised versions of Workshop selected papers) will be published in the
LNCS Series
of Springer-Verlag.

All submitted papers will be judged on their quality and relevance from at
least 3 members of the
program committee.
At least one author of each accepted paper must attend the workshop to present
their work.
Workshop registration information will be available at
