FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS
2nd International Workshop on
Mobile Distributed Computing (MDC'04)
http://www.comp.polyu.edu.hk/~mdc04
In conjunction with the 24th International Conference on
Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2004)
Tokyo, Japan, March 23 - 26, 2004
With the advance in mobile wireless communication technology,
research in distributed computing is beginning to extend its scope to
address problems relevant to mobile environments. The special
characteristics of mobile environments, such as highly variable
connectivity, disconnection, location-dependency, and energy and
resource sensitivity, and the diversity and flexibility introduced by
mobile systems bring new challenges for research in distributed
computing. Existing solutions, tailored primarily for wired
distributed environments, need to be modified/extended, and new
solutions need to be created. Mobile distributed computing has
emerged as a discipline of distributed systems research and practice
toward support for mobility. It is concerned with creating solutions
using mobile communication networks and mobile computing devices to
enable the sharing of distributed resources/services and to
facilitate remote collaborations while people work away from the
fixed, wired facilities.
Following the success of the first workshop MDC'03, held in
conjunction with ICDCS'03 in Providence, Rhode Island USA, MDC'04
provides a forum for scientists and engineers in academia and
industry to exchange and discuss their experiences, new ideas,
research results, and products about all aspects of mobile
distributed computing. Topics of particular interest include, but are
not limited to:
* Distributed algorithms for communication, synchronization and
coordination in mobile computing environments
* Cooperating mobile agents
* Environments, middleware and tool support for mobile distributed
computing
* Fault tolerance and security in mobile distributed environments
* Location-based services and applications
* Pervasive computing
* Mobile cluster computing / Mobile grid computing/ Mobile
Peer-to-Peer computing
* Resource/service sharing and management in mobile distributed
environments
* Mobile distributed transactions
* Distributed applications in mobile environments
Paper Submission:
MDC 2004 invites authors to submit original and unpublished work.
Papers must be written in English and should not exceed 6 pages in
IEEE proceedings style. Authors should submit a PostScript (level 2)
or PDF file that will print on a PostScript printer. Electronic
submission through the submission website is strongly encouraged.
Hard copies will be accepted only if electronic submission is not
possible. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the
authors to register and present the paper. Accepted papers will be
published by IEEE Computer Society Press.
Important Dates:
Papers due Sep. 20, 2003
Notification of acceptance Nov. 1, 2003
Camera-ready papers due Dec. 20, 2003
