Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Reference No. A32/004062 The School currently has a vacancy for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Information Systems. The School has strongly focussed research clusters in Language & Knowledge Management, Visual Information Processing and Networks & Systems, and conducts research in information systems, language technologies, machine learning, multimedia technologies, distributed systems, networks and algorithms, amongst others. It is well equipped with modern work-stations, fileservers, X-window terminals, high-speed Internet access, and several specialised laboratories for teaching and research. Applicants for the position, at either level, must have a PhD in Information Systems (or a related field), with relevant expertise in two out of the four following broad teaching areas: 1) Information Systems Analysis and Design, 2) Distributed IS, 3) Database and Decision Support Systems, and 4) IS Research Methods. They also need excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work co-operatively with others, and an ability to develop enthusiasm in students. An applicant at the Snr. Lecturer level would be expected to also have a strong research record, evidence of potential for further research, demonstrated lecturing and tutoring skills, relevant teaching experience, and administrative skills. An applicant at the Lecturer level would be expected to also have proven research ability and evidence of research potential. The successful applicant must be capable of conducting high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (including supervision of Honours, Masters and PhD students), and will be expected to take an active part in both the teaching and research activities of the School. A Market Loading may be applied to the base salary, subject to the skills and experience of the successful applicant, which is negotiated and approved on an annual basis.
