CFP: Third International Workshop on Visual Data Mining: msg#00091db.dbworld
Call for papers VDM@ICDM2003 - The 3rd International Workshop on Visual Data Mining in conjunction with ICDM 2003 - The Third IEEE International Conference on Data Mining, November 19 - 22, 2003, Melbourne, Florida, USA IMPORTANT DATES Submission deadline: 8-th September 2003 Acceptance notification: 22-nd September 2003 Camera ready copy: 6-th October 2003 Workshop day: 19-th November 2003 Workshop Website: http://research.it.uts.edu.au/emarkets/vdm_icdm2003/ Workshop contact: vdm03-IuPLbuXCSHZWG/WdbR7gnQ@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The goal of this workshop series is to provide a forum for presentation and discussion of the newest ideas, research and developments in visual data mining and supporting disciplines, and to identify the short- and long-term research directions in the field. TOPICS OF INTEREST The scope of the workshop covers the intersection of broad range of disciplines. This year workshop will focus on selected issues that surfaced during the past workshops, namely on metrics for visual data mining methods (including an invited presentation on recent developments in visualization metrics by Georges Grinstein), and the application of visual data mining to discover causalities. The major topics of the workshop include but are not limited to: * methods for visual data analysis * data and knowledge representation and metaphors visualization for visual data mining; * metrics for evaluation of visual data mining methods; * virtual environments for data visualisation and exploration, including immersive visualisations; * visual reasoning and cognitive aspects of visual data mining; * validating results of visual data mining; * complexity, efficiency and scalability in visual data mining; * immersive visual data mining in virtual reality systems; * visual data mining of social networks; * fractals visualisation - fractal dimensions, self-similarity and symmetry - in visual data mining. We also encourage submissions, which present early stages of research work, software applications and demonstrations of research and development projects. The workshop program is expected to include demonstrations of visual data mining prototypes and systems. WORKSHOP CHAIRS Simeon J. Simoff - University of Technology Sydney, Australia Monique Noirhomme-Fraiture - FUNDP, Belgium Michael H.
