*************************************************************************** * * * CALL FOR PAPERS * * * * 3nd International Workshop on * * Databases in Networked Information Systems (DNIS 2003) * * * * Sessions on User Interactions and Web Based Services * * * * September 22 - 24, 2003 * * The University of Aizu, Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan * * * * http://www.u-aizu.ac.jp/labs/sw-db/DNIS2003.html * * * * Submission Deadline: April 15, 2003 * * * * Sponsored by the University of Aizu * * in the occasion of its 10th Anniversary * * * * The Workshop Proceedings will be published in the * * Lecture Notes in Computer Science series of Springer. * * * * * *************************************************************************** Knowledge of Data semantics in Web-based Information systems is an important research issue at present times. The need for accessing the semantic contents of the information derives from the large amount of data available on the Internet. There is a need to personalize its search and integration to the various types of users. Two possible approaches have been recently addressed: integration of the Web technology with Database technology and the use of Meta-Languages such as XML, the eXtensible Markup Language. These solutions offer semi- or highly structured data that allow users to perform queries at a higher semantic level and facilitate the dynamical personalization of Web-based applications. It has hence become important to address the question of how one can efficiently query and search large collections of XML documents, as well as the question of finding new solutions, both to support dynamic architectures for Web-based applications and to understand how to model user criteria for content and data presentation. Contributions will cover new requirements, concepts for implementation, management of meta-data, system architecture and experience gained in information systems, DBMSs and XML modeling. Attendance at DNIS is limited to 30-40 active researchers. The workshop is organized as a gathering of invited presentations and peer-reviewed paper presentations. Few internationally known experts on Web technology and related areas are being invited. The format of the workshop will encourage everyone to participate actively in discussions. Keynote discussions will be used to focus the debate onto current research issues. Pre-printed papers will be available to all participants and discussion is expected to lead to improvement of the papers and a record of their inter-relationships. The workshop will publish its proceedings in Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. TOPICS OF INTEREST The objective of this workshop is to enable presentation and exchange of ideas on various aspects of Web Personalization Systems. Our desire is to facilitate communication among researchers and practitioners from related and complementary research areas, who are working on similar problems but with possibly different focus and problem solving approaches. These include: Database Modeling and Web Technology, User Profiling and Web Personalization and Web visualization. Particular topics of interest for the workshop include but are not limited to: Web Databases: Data Models and Transformation Data Interchange Languages High-Level Dynamical Interfaces Architecture and Systems Semi-structured Data Web Personalization: Data models for Web usage, content, and structure data Integration of content, structure and usage data for personalization Knowledge representation issues Effective techniques for personalization based on anonymous data Cognitive models for Web navigation Multimedia Data Semantics Metrics for personalization effectiveness Applications: Governmental Digital Libraries Information systems in Health Care Web GIS Systems Electronic Commerce, and Data Security Personalized Multimedia data Retrieval System Others Papers addressing these and closely related issues are invited. We strongly encourage papers that report experimental work and results. IMPORTANT DATES Paper Submission (deadline extended): 15 April 2003 Author notifications: 25 May 2003 Camera-ready version due: 25 June 2003 Workshop opening: 22 September 2003 PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES The manuscripts (5000 words, maximum 16 pages) should be submitted by 15 April 2003. Each paper should contain a short abstract of approximately 200 words. The address, e-mail and fax numbers of the authors should be included on the cover page. Authors are invited to send PDF or Postscript files by Email (using standard compression and encoding, with details). Please see instructions for authors at the workshop web page. Alternatively, 4 copies of the paper can be sent by post. PROGRAM CHAIR Nadia Bianchi-Berthouze University of Aizu, Japan nadia-P2GrUuHSao/tP0S62TOXqw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx PROGRAM COMMITTEE * D.
