CFP: Workshop on Engineering Methods to Support Information Systems Evoluti: msg#00132db.dbworld
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- First International Workshop on Engineering Methods to Support Information Systems Evolution (EMSISE'03) http://cui.unige.ch/db-research/EMSISE03/ In conjunction with OOIS'03 9th International Conference on Object-Oriented Information Systems Geneva, Switzerland, September 2-5, 2003 http://oois.unige.ch ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The constant evolution of the real world implies change of the supporting Information Systems (IS), i.e. modification of the data schemas, adjustment of the required information, change of the business rules, etc. There are a number of factors that can convince an organisation to make its IS evolve. Examples of those are the transformation of its organisational structure, the renovation of its production and manufacturing technologies, the change of its business processes, the necessity to modernise its software technology, etc. All these changes are necessary to survive the world wide competition and to fulfil the increasing requirements of the society. As a consequence, the goal of IS engineers is to develop systems that can support future improvements in an easy way. This workshop is focused on Method Engineering (ME) for evolutionary Information Systems engineering. The question to respond is how analysis and design methods, models and tools could help to create Information Systems supporting evolution. Two main research directions will be considered in the workshop: 1. New IS analysis and design methods, models, techniques and tools supporting: - Engineering of the evolutionary Information Systems i.e. the systems that would be able to follow the evolution of the real world and to evolve in the same time, and - Adaptation of the existing Information Systems to new requirements, i.e. their transformation, extension, integration, etc. 2. New Method Engineering approaches and techniques supporting: - Construction of evolution-oriented methods, and - Transformation, adaptation, extension, etc. of existing methods. TOPICS Topics of interest include but are not limited to: - New Paradigms of IS Evolutionary Methods - Cooperative Processes to Manage IS Evolution - Patterns and Frameworks Related to IS Evolution - Methods for IS Components Design - Methods for IS Re-engineering - Methods for IS Reverse Engineering - Requirements Engineering Methods - Methods for Business Process Engineering and Improvement - Enterprise Modelling - Web Design - Web Service Modelling - E-business Modelling - User Interface Modelling - Information Modelling - Methods for Knowledge Engineering and Management - Mobile Information Systems Modelling - Process Modelling - Web-enabled Methods - Organisational Method Infrastructures - Implementation Methods - Situation-driven Method Engineering - Method Adaptation and Extension Techniques - Component-based Method Engineering - CAME tools - CASE Tools for IS Design and Implementation - Experience and Case Studies of Method Use SUBMISSION GUIDELINES The workshop solicits original research papers as well as papers describing practical experience related to the area of the workshop theme. Two types of submissions will be accepted: regular papers (no more than 5000 words) and position papers (no more than 3000 words). - Regular papers should describe research results relevant to one of the topics from the list given above by emphasising what is new and significant about the proposed approach and comparing it with similar work. Comparison of existing approaches, case studies and experience related to the workshop theme could also be submitted as a regular paper. - Position papers should state author's research position in the current ME research and practice. The first page of each submission must include: - Title of paper, - Authors' names and affiliations, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses, - Abstract (no more than 150 words), - Keywords chosen (if possible) from the list of main topics above, - Submission category: regular paper, position paper. All submitted papers will be reviewed by 2 - 3 members of the Program Committee. Only electronic submissions are accepted. E-mail your paper as an attachment in Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF format to ralyte-L26034Xmq3cXXHkOk0aIfQ@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Please do not submit hard copy: the accepted papers will be distributed electronically to the reviewers and to the other participants before the workshop. Registration to the OOIS'03 conference is required in order to participate in the workshop. WORKSHOP FORMAT The workshop will take one day. In order to provide fruitful discussion and collaborative work, attendance to the workshop will be limited to the authors of papers, invited speakers and discussants. The workshop language is English. The accepted papers will be made available electronically to all workshop participants before the workshop, so that discussions and questions can be prepared beforehand. The presentations will be short (10-15 minutes). A discussant will be appointed for each paper presentation. He or she will be followed by a plenary discussion of the paper. Publication Accepted papers will be published in the workshop proceedings, which will be available at the workshop. Best papers will be considered (after extension and enhancement) for publication in an international journal (e.g., Journal of Database Management). ---------------------------------------- IMPORTANT DATES: Paper submission: May 30 Notification of acceptance: June 30 Final version: 15 July Workshop: September 5 ---------------------------------------- ORGANISERS - PROGRAM CO-CHAIRS Dr. Jolita Ralyté, CUI, University of Geneva, Switzerland, ralyte-YXV0xhUQREw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Prof. Colette Rolland, CRI, University of Paris 1- Sorbonne, France, rolland-JY2aMsvkacJh87TC1meKLQ@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx PROGRAM COMMITTEE Sjaak Brinkkemper, Triffit and Vrije Universiteit - The Netherlands Rébecca Deneckère, University of Paris 1 - Sorbonne, France Brian Henderson-Sellers, University of Technology, Sydney, Australia Michel Léonard, University de Geneva, Switzerland Kalle Lyytinen, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Graham McLeod, University of Cape Town, South Africa Naveen Prakash, JIIT, Noida, India Jolita Ralyté, University de Geneva, Switzerland Colette Roland, University of Paris 1 - Sorbonne, France Matoshi Saeki, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan Keng Siau, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA Samira Si-Said Charfi, Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Paris, France Janis Stirna, Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University, Sweden Juha-Pekka Tolvanen, University of Jyväskylä, FINLAND -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe or unsubscribe yourself from dbworld, send a msg to majordomo-hcNo3dDEHLuVc3sceRu5cw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with one of these lines: subscribe dbworld OR unsubscribe dbworld To find out more options send a msg with the line: help To post messages, go to URL www.cs.wisc.edu/dbworld --------------------------------------------------------------------------
