CISST03: Content-based and Semantic-based Multimedia Retrieval Technical Se: msg#00116db.dbworld
C A L L F O R P A P E R S Deadline extended to March 3rd, 2003 CISST03: Content-based and Semantic-based Multimedia Retrieval Technical Session Monte Carlo Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA June 23-26, 2003 Dear Colleagues: You are invited to submit original work (see instructions below) to the Content-based and Semantic-based Multimedia Retrieval Technical Session of the 2003 International Conference on Imaging Science, Systems and Technology (CISST03). The conference is part of the 2003 International Multiconference in Computer Science & Computer Engineering composed of 15 conferences held simultaneously at the same location and date. For more information about the events, please visit http://www.ashland.edu/~iajwa/conferences. Session Description & Topics In our multimedia rich society, searching efficiently through digital libraries containing large number of multimedia documents has become very crucial. Every day, many people use the Internet for browsing and retrieval through different multimedia databases. To make such searching practical and successful, effective indexing and retrieval techniques based on both multimedia semantics content and compositional aspects will be necessary. There are several approaches to retrieve documents by the exclusive use of keywords or primitive multimedia features. However, users who are not well versed with the domain characteristics might be more comfortable in working with content-based retrieval systems that allow users to specify a query in terms of keywords, thus eliminating the usually intimidation in dealing with very primitive features. The aim of this session is to bring together researchers who are developing methods to address these issues and to exchange their ideas. The main topics include but are not limited to: * Feature extraction and dimension reduction techniques * Multidimensional-indexing * Similarity measures * Semi-automatic and automatic multimedia annotation * Relevance feedback * Intelligent browsing and visualization of multimedia data sets * Multimodal indexing and retrieval SESSION CHAIR: Dr. Daniela Stan Raicu Assistant Professor School of Computer Science, Telecommunications & Information Systems (CTI) DePaul University 243 S. Wabash Ave, Chicago, IL 60604, USA Email: dstan-3OFKzk7aIKxkZI0wD67Jjg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx URL: http://facweb.cti.depaul.edu/dstan/CISST03/ SESSION CO-CHAIR: Dr. Yong Rui Researcher Communication, Collaborative and Signal Processing Group Microsoft Research One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052, USA Email: yongrui-0li6OtcxBFHby3iVrkZq2A@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx URL: http://research.microsoft.com/~yongrui/ IMPORTANT DATES: Submission March 3rd, 2003 (Extended) Notification of acceptance March 21, 2003 Camera-Ready papers & Pre-registration April 22, 2003 Conference Dates June 23-26, 2003 SUBMISSION OF PAPERS: Prospective authors are invited to submit their papers by email to Daniela Stan Raicu, the session chair, by the due date at dstan-3OFKzk7aIKyOkWjFvPCD3Q@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx If electronic submission is not possible, please mail three copies of the paper to the session chair.
