=========================== Call for Papers =========================== The Fourth International Conference on Web-Age Information Management (WAIM 2003) Chengdu, China August 17 - 19, 2003 Conference Web site: http://www.cs.wright.edu/~waim03/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- Submission site is open now at http://buzzard.cs.unc.edu:8087/ Paper submisison deadline is 5pm EST time Friday March 7, 2003 ----------------------------------------------------------------- With advances in the Internet and, in particular, various technologies around the World-Wide Web, research on design, implementation, and management of Internet and Web-based information systems has become increasingly important. As more and more information of diverse types becomes available on the Internet and Web, query and retrieval as well as the management of information over the Internet become more complex and extremely difficult. Novel approaches to develop and manage Internet and Web information systems are in high demand. These issues have been the focus of discussions during the previous WAIM conferences in Shanghai, China (June 2000), in Xi'an, China (July 2001) and in Bejing, China (August 2002). These conferences were successful and each attracted more than 100 participants from all over the world. WAIM '03 will undoubtedly continue to provide a forum for researchers, professionals, and industrial practitioners from around the world to share their rapidly evolving knowledge and to report on new advances in Web-based information systems. You are invited to submit original technical papers in English reporting recent results in database and related fields. Both research papers and experience and application papers are welcome. While research papers should report original research work, experience and application papers should describe the development and operations of challenging database related systems and applications. In WAIM '03, proposals for demonstrations of novel and innovative systems are also welcome. The Demos program is an important part of the technical program. Proposals for demos should clearly describe what will be demonstrated and should emphasize the most novel and interesting aspects of the system to be shown. Chengdu is the center of South-West China, for science and technology, commerce, finance as well as communication and transport. Chengdu is also a famous Chinese historical and cultural city. It has a pleasant climate, exquisite lush mountains, and beautiful rivers. Among its renowned scenic spots and historical sites are Marquis Wu Shrine, Thatched Cottage Du Fu, and Dujiangyan Irrigation System. Chengdu is also home of the giant panda. Chengdu also provides easy access to many top tourist attractions, including the Three Gorges on the Changjiang (Yangtze) River in the east; to Tibet, Jiuzhaigou, and Huanglong Temple in the west; to the Terra-cotta Warriors of Xi'an in the north; and to Mt. Emei and the Giant Buddha of Leshan in the south. There are frequent air flights between Chengdu and the following cities: Hongkong, Kathmandu, Nagoya, Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, every major city in China, and many major cities in Europe. We expect that the WAIM technical programs will continue to be exciting. We encourage you to join us in Chengdu, China, and take part in this exciting and enriching event. The major topics of interest include but are not limited to the following: Advanced applications of databases Agent technology and information management Biological and genome information systems Cooperative information systems Data and information quality Data migration and integration Data mining and knowledge discovery Data and Web warehousing Data Security Database languages and semantics Databases and electronic commerce Design of databases and data warehouses Emerging Web techniques Financial and engineering databases Internet and web-based data management Interoperability and heterogeneous systems Location dependent data management Metadata use and management Multidimensional databases and OLAP Multimedia information systems Parallel and distributed database systems Performance and benchmarking Query processing and optimization Storage management and access methods Spatial and temporal databases Text database and information retrieval Transaction management Visualizing the structure and content of databases Web and database technology Workflow XML and Semi-structured data IMPORTANT DATES March 1, 2003 Abstract submission March 7, 2003 Paper/Demo submission April 22, 2003 Notification of acceptance May 20, 2003 Camera-ready copies August 17-19,2003 Conference Dates Please check with the conference website in case of date changes.
