IJCAI-03 Workshop on Nonmonotonic Reasoning, Action, and Change: msg#00035db.dbworld
CALL FOR PAPERS IJCAI-03 Workshop on Nonmonotonic Reasoning, Action, and Change (NRAC'03) Acapulco, Mexico, August 2003. www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~nrac03/ (held at the Eighteenth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence) Overview The biannual Workshop on Nonmonotonic Reasoning, Action, and Change (NRAC) was first established in 1995 and since then it has been held in conjunction with the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI). The focus of NRAC is on the areas of Reasoning about Action, Nonmonotonic Reasoning, and Belief Change, all three of which have been identified as the fundamental high-level cognitive capabilities necessary for an intelligent agent to function in a rich, dynamic environment. Research in these areas has made significant progress during the last two decades of the past century. In Reasoning about Actions, much of the research has focused on the design of appropriate logics for dealing effectively with the frame, ramification, and qualification problems. Most of these logics are nonmonotonic, showing the strong connection between Nonmonotonic Reasoning and Reasoning about Action. Moreover, as the need to accommodate new observations (possibly from inaccurate sensors) enters the scene, the connection between Belief Revision and Reasoning about Action comes at focus. As the various formalisms in the above three areas are reaching a satisfactory level of stability and effectiveness in dealing with the conceptual problems, the research community is diverting part of its effort in tackling computational considerations as well as applying the theoretical work in domains like the Semantic Web and Cognitive Robotics. The main goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers from all three research areas, working either in theory or in applications, with the aim to: - Compare and evaluate existing formalisms in the three areas. - Report on new developments and innovations. - Identify important challenges (either in theory or in practice). - Explore the strong inter-connections between the three areas. Submission of Papers Submitted papers should not exceed 10 pages of standard LaTeX 12pt article format (excluding bibliography). Electronic submissions are strongly encouraged. To submit a paper electronically, the authors should send an email with subject "NRAC'03 Submission" to both co-chairs (see below), with the file of the paper as an attachment (Postscript format), and the following information at the body of the email in plain text: Paper title. Author names. Surface mail, email address, and phone number of the contact author. A short abstract and up to five keywords. Authors unable to submit their paper electronically should post four hardcopies of their paper to one of the co-chairs at the addresses listed below. The paper should include an email address, and a postal address of the contact author. Deadline dates will be strictly adhered to.
