Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation. more...

==================================================================================
Persistence, Scalability, Transactions - Database Mechanisms for
Mobile Applications

http://www.ipd.uni-karlsruhe.de/mdbis-workshop

Workshop by the GI-Arbeitskreis "Mobile Datenbanken und
Informationssysteme"

April 10 - 11, 2003, Universität Karlsruhe(TH), Germany

===================================================================================

Mobile devices are becoming more and more popular. They allow
for the development of new application areas (e.g.,
location-dependent services), but also for the usage of
traditional applications by mobile clients. However, mobile
computing does not only bring along new chances, but also new
challenges. Some of the most important questions are: How should
data be distributed among mobile clients and stationary servers?
How can this distributed data be kept consistent? How can
persistence be guaranteed, if we have to deal with vulnerable
mobile devices? How can a large number of mobile clients be
supported?

In more traditional environments, database technology offers
answers to these questions. Is it possible to apply these
solutions to mobile and wireless environments? Where can existing
database technology be used to enable mobile applications? Where
is it necessary to extend or generalize database technology to
solve the new challenges? Where does it make more sense to use
just some of the mechanisms provided (e.g., persistence or
transactions) instead of utilizing a complete database management
system?

The workshop aims at bringing together researchers from academia
and industry, vendors and users of mobile technology to discuss
these questions. These discussions should include basic research,
but also applications and technology.

TOPICS OF INTEREST:

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* Architecture and Implementation of Mobile DBMS
* Models for Persistence and Transactions
* Synchronisation and Recovery of Mobile Applications
* Data Distribution: Replication, Caching
* Scalability and Performance
* Location- and Context-dependent Queries
* Query Execution, Indexing, Optimization
* User Interfaces and Information Adaptation
* Application Development for Mobile DBMS
* Cooperation among Mobile DBMS and a Server DBMS

We are interested in papers describing solutions to the problems
as well as in papers (in particular from users) which discuss open
questions and list requirements solutions need to meet. Vision
papers and reports about new (research) projects are also of
interest; these can also be submitted as short papers.

Workshop languages will be German and English. (There will be NO
simultaneous translation!)

Submissions (in either Postscript or PDF format) should be send to

koenig-/WBfjHEVXw1H8HOlP0F5JqhivhuVJJ3m@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We accept papers in German or English. The length should not
exceed 10 pages for regular papers, 5 pages for short papers.

All the submissions will be thoroughly reviewed by at least two members of
the program committee. The proceedings of the workshop will be
published as a volume of the GI series "Lecture Notes in
Informatics" (see http://gi-ev.de/LNI for formatting
instructions).
