The 2003 International Conference on Web Services (ICWS'03) will be held in
Las Vegas, Nevada, June 23 - 26, 2003. It is the first international
conference focusing on Web Services. The ICWS'03 is a forum for researchers
and industry practitioner to exchange information regarding advancements in
the state of the art and practice of Web Services, as well as to identify
the emerging research topics and define the future of Web Services
computing. The ICWS'03 Conference will be held simultaneously (ie, same
location and dates) with a number of other international conferences and
workshops (CISST'03, IC-AI'03, IC'03, METMBS'03, CIC'03, ...; for a

CALL FOR PAPERS -- SPECIAL SESSION: WEB SERVICES AND PROCESS MANGEMENT

This session will focus on the intersection of web services and process
management. Two related types of work are encouraged in this session: (1)
Using web services as the new paradigm of developing component-based
process management systems in the contexts of workflow systems,
cross-company ERP integration, process coordination for grid computing,
and supply chain facilitation. (2) Using workflow technology to
coordinate web services in such areas as web services integration, web
services discovery, and web services fulfillment. In both types of work,
research results will be solicited that address modeling, architectural,
theoretical, experimental, and practical issues. Specific topics include
but are not limited to:

· Advanced role resolution and other workflow techniques using web services
· Business activity monitoring using web services
· Business process integration using web services
· Case studies for web services and process management
· Component-based workflow system using web service infrastructures
· E-commerce applications using web services based process management
· Frameworks for building web service based process management
· Integration of workflow and groupware systems through web services
· Process management architecture for web services
· Process outsourcing with distributed and collaborative workflow systems
· Resource management for process coordination under web services
· Security issues in web services-based process management
· The impact of web services on enterprise integration strategies
· Web services based process modeling languages and paradigms
· Web services discovery in support of process management

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS:
=====================

All submissions must be e-mailed (PDF or MS Word format) to the session
contact by the due date. The length of the Camera-Ready papers (if
accepted) will be limited to 7 pages in IEEE style (see authors' kit at the
conference web site). Papers must not have been previously published or
currently submitted for publication elsewhere.

The first page of the draft paper should include: title of the paper, name,
affiliation, postal address, E-mail address, telephone number, and Fax
number for each author. The first page should also include the name of the
author who will be presenting the paper (if accepted) and a maximum of 5
keywords.

EVALUATION PROCESS:
===================

Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity, and
soundness. Each paper will be refereed by two researchers in the topical
area. The Camera-Ready papers will be reviewed by one person.

PUBLICATION:
============

The conference proceedings will be published by CSREA Press (ISBN) in
hardcopy. It will be a multivolume set. The proceedings will be available
at the conference. (In addition to the hardcopy, it is also planned to
publish the papers on a CD.)

The co-chairs of the special session are also editing a special issue on
Decision Support Systems on the same topic. Quality papers in this special
session will be selected for extension and submission for consideration in
the special issue after a review process.
