RE: DP Does Not Recognize Printer: msg#00016db.dataperfect.general
I have several Brother laser printers (including HL-1440) in my office and they are all able to print from DP (even without DPSpool). Matt's suggestion is correct. The computer doesn't have to be in a network. You just need to make sure to "share" the printer so the net use function can find it as a resource. At least, that's how I got mine to work. Brother laser printers do recognize PCL language but the older versions and low ends only emulates up to PCL 2 or 3. It does not help to do it over the network as the printer still cannot translate the string sent from DP. But, a brief search on the net led me to this discussion list. I have not perused it in any detail at all, but it seems there may be a roundabout way to do it. Here is the link: http://www.wpuniverse.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=24770 Good luck PS: Incidentally, when using WP systems I always purchase Postscript compatible printers. They always seem to work through Dos, at least from WP. I have no experience with DPSPOOL. I discontinues printing directly from DP long ago as for my purposes it was simpler and cleaner to run the DP report file through WP 51. or even import it into Word. Jens T. You can't print directly from a DOS app to the HL 2040 since it doesn't support the PCL printer language. (Brother includes support for PCL in the next model up, the HL 2070N.) HOWEVER... DP can print to the HL 2040 if you use Tim Rude's DPSPOOL program (available free at www.dataperfect.nl).
