Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation. more...

Subject: Re: Subreports and carriage returns

Victor - once you've accumulated the data in the RV use the RV once out of the subreport in the text. There is no carriage return involved. I dummied up a sample of how to do that. It is fairly straight forward but perhaps I'm not fully understanding what it is you want to accomplish. I believe we're unable to send a zipped file through the group so I'm also sending it directly to you.

Thank for the response. I think I understand how to run sub report to collect the names eg declare RV at top of report, then in body of subreports, repeat RV number with RV1+P1F1, but I am having difficulty understanding how to print out the RV using cat.t or otherwise.

Further help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Victor.

Victor - at first glance it seems to me that you could accomplish your first objective by "building" (for the lack of a better term) an RV that each time it dipped down into the subreport added the next last name to what was already collected. The RV would have to start out blank (obviously) and then probably add through a cat.t formula the last name plus a space or other separator and then be printed out once you've left the subreport. I would expect that the printing takes place at the end of the report so then you'd insert the RV into the paragraph.

Got that? I haven't had coffee yet so I hope I'm being clear.

I would like to know whether the following are possible in a DP report
using a subreport:

1. If the subreport prints a field (such as last name field) is it
possible to avoid each instance of the last name being following by a
carriage return (ie each instance of the subreport). So that instead of
printing, eg

Smith
Jones
Adams

Can it print

Smith Jones Adams?

2. When the subreport ends is it possible to avoid the last thing in the
subreport having a carriage return, so that instead of having

[in subreport]Smith has sold 29 units of the product
[in main report]and would now like to sell you some more

Can it print

[in subreport]Smith has sold 29 units of the product [in main report]and
would now like to sell you some more?

I have seen Ralph Alvy's book (on Subreports: going from version 2.2. to
2.3, pages 230-231) about needing to insert carriage returns. As far as
i can tell I have deleted all that are possible to delete, but I cannot
achieve what I want. (Alternatively, if the str file is exported to a
ste and the carriage returns are deleted and then imported back, would
that deal with the above?)

Help with these would be greatly appreciated.

Victor Warner.
