Did you also try the context menu (right click) as suggested?

A third option is to click on the Trash Can icon in the property panel at
the bottom of the screen when the item that you want is selected.

I know you didn't create the problem, but the fact that you are working on a
forked copy of the sources will make it difficult to support you.  It would
be better to structure any additions to have clean interfaces back to the
core -- and submit patches to the core to make this possible, if necessary.
