No info on when the 406 scorchers will be available, but I am waiting
for them (I have 4 'on order')- the tyres on my XXL (Schawlbe Marathon
Slicks) were really due for replacement before I set out for my summer
tour - after another 1,400 miles I had my spare on the back as the old
tyre failed about 400 miles from home and the two front tyres are
awfully thin - so at the moment I am riding my Micro with the 349
Scorchers - I have done exactly 1,200 miles since I fitted them and am
very impressed with them (which is why I am waiting for the 406
Scorchers for my XXL). I have had 3 punctures so far - one in each
wheel (though 2 were at the same time) and find that compared to the
Schawlbe Marathon rear/Schawlbe Stelvios front tyres I was using before
I get a better ride (they deal with potholes much better), have good
grip (I do get some wheel-spin when winching my way up steep damp
country lanes) and they have already lasted as long as the Stelvios did
and still look good for some distance yet - AND they increase the
minimum clearance below the rear gear mech by a massive amount - from 3
mm to at least 10 mm - though this will not be as important with the
406 size.
