Re: Bells n Horns...: msg#00151culture.transportation.humanpowered.trikes
I have a 'bells n horns' related story about a then 'unnamed' bike path by White Rock Lake in Dallas. Kind of gross but, since most of you heard that Dallas has 'highest' crime rate, should not be surprised. Worked with police dept. from '63 to '70, when we got a meal break, my partner recognized a friend in booth by cashier. He was with another friend, after introductions and we joined them, his friend's grip felt funny. I noticed his right middle finger (second digit) was gone! Of course I 'had' to ask,..."Viet Nam"? He replied 'No, transistor radio'! Turns out he was one of those guys who thinks he 'owns the road' type. He always played radio high (no walkmans then) and never liked to yield to others who wanted to pass. Usually 'shot the shaft' at them and continued at his own pace. He thinks it was someone whom he had flipped off before. Someone hit him from behind, knocked him down, clipped off his 'shaft' finger' and left unknown to anyone. We had to leave early and didn't get any other info. Never heard or read anything like it on TV or newspaper. Wonder how often this happens without reporting. I agree, 'courtesy is the best policy'.
