It sounds like the pin assembly that goes into the end of the hub axle
is bent, rusted or dry. The other possibility is the clickbox that
goes on the end of the axle is in need of maintenance.

I've got one of these with a coaster brake included on my winter bike
and I'm quite happy with it.
