Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Subject: CULTSTUD-L is moving (15 March)

Hi, all --

For a variety of technical reasons, the nice folks at Academic Computing here at USF are gradually changing all their listservs from one brand of software (Lyris) to another (Mailman). And CULTSTUD-L's turn in the moving queue is around the corner. For most of you, the changeover should be almost unnoticeable. But, like any move, this one will have its own share of quirks and discomforts. And some listmembers will be inconvenienced a bit more than others.

The major (and evidently unavoidable) inconvenience of the move -- so far anyway (knock on wood) -- is that the nice folks at Academic Computing have not been able to come up with a way to move people's subscription settings. They've tried. And they've tried. But no luck. What this means is that listmembers who currently have their subscriptions set to anything besides "regular" message delivery (e.g., digest, mime-digest, index, or nomail) will LOSE those settings when we move. If that describes you -- and if you want to keep those settings intact -- AFTER we move, you'll need to access your subscription details via the new web interface and tweak them accordingly. (And, of course, when we actually make the move, I'll provide full details on how to get to the new web interface, etc.)

Our MOVING DAY is Monday, 15 March 2004 (the exact time of day is still t.b.d., but the relevant clocks/calendars are all on US Eastern Time (which is currently -0500 GMT)). I'll post another reminder or two in advance of the changeover and, immediately after the move, I'll post an announcement containing the promised details on how to get to the new web interface and tweak your settings as need be.

In the meantime, thanks for your patience as we pack things up and transplant ourselves into our new virtual home.

Your friendly neighborhood list manager,
Gil
