Anna McCarthy has a great chapter on the uses of television at the mall and specific retail spaces in her book "Ambient Television" (Duke). I'd also recommend Marianne Conroy's essay called "Discount Dreams: Factory Outlet Malls, Consumption, and the Performance of Middle-Class Identity," in Social Text 54 (16:1) Spring 1998. She looks at the factory outlet mall to discuss, among other things, the blurring of categories of leisure and labor and the classed experiences of consumption and shopping.
