Subject: Re: Visiting the mall

You might also browse through Walter Benjamin's Arcades Project (now in an
excellent Harvard UP edition, I believe), which has scattered brilliant
insights on shopping, site, etc, that would provide a useful historical
perspective. I have my students visit a mall and do some structuralist
binary reporting on aspects of it; I'll see if I can rustle up the handout
or assignment and pass it along. The Morris essay is fine, though a
little more helpful on the ideology of mall construction and history than
on a hands-on analysis.
