Subject: Re:God and Cultural Studies

This is an excellent question. I have a number of students in my class
who closely identify with various religious traditions and I am
frustrated at how often they do not see their experiences given any
visibility in the course material.

There are a couple of books that I found useful for my own reading.
They deal with postmodernism, not cultural studies, but I think offer
some interesting discussion of the role of spiritual
traditions/religion in current cultural/philosophical debates.

Stanley Grenz' "A Primer on Post Modernism" gives a very respectful
account of postmodernism from a Christian perspective for Christians.
It is somewhat simplified and does not go into detail about the
Christian response to PM but I found it interesting.

David Loy's work on the relationship between Buddhism and Western
Philosophy, particularly postmodernism, is particularly interesting. I
especially like his book "A Buddhist history of the West : studies in
lack" that turns the tables and provides an examination of western
philosophical traditions, including modernism and post-modernism, from
a Buddhist perspective.

I am very interested in what others have to offer on this point.
