PhD Bursary: Using creative methods to explore people's relationship with
media culture

This PhD bursary is offered by the Centre for Creative Media Research at
Bournemouth Media School, Bournemouth University, UK
(http://www.media.bournemouth.ac.uk/ccmr.html). The PhD would be supervised
by David Gauntlett, Professor of Media and Audiences.

The Centre for Creative Media Research is offering one PhD bursary, covering
full-time fees and maintenance for three years. Applicants are invited to
propose a PhD project of their own design, involving qualitative research on
some aspect of people's relationship with media culture. The successful
application will be one which falls within the remit of the Centre and, more
specifically, uses the new qualitative research methods being explored by
the Centre, in which participants are asked to make creative artefacts (e.g.
drawings, videos, photographs, etc) as part of the process. Please read the
introduction to this approach at www.artlab.org.uk/intro.htm before writing
a proposal.

Applicants may come from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, such as
sociology, media and cultural studies, psychology, art education or art
history.

Note that the bursary will last for three years, and the PhD should be
completed within that three years. The period of study would normally
commence in May 2004, but is negotiable. Closing date for applications: 5th
March 2004.

Please see the further details about this bursary at
http://www.artlab.org.uk/bursary.htm
