WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY The Media Arts and Studies area of the Department of Communication at Wayne State University invites applications for two tenure-track positions, to begin in August 2003: 1) Associate or Assistant Professor: Full-time, tenure track faculty position with an emphasis in film/video or new media production. Additional expertise in scriptwriting, media studies, electronic journalism, or new technologies is highly desirable. The person filling this position will make a significant contribution to the teaching and scholarly/creative mission of the faculty through graduate and undergraduate instruction, curriculum development, advising, and supervision of student works and activities. Qualifications: PhD or MFA in Media Arts and/or Studies (television/radio, film, new media) with demonstrated expertise in the creative and practical aspects of the media production process. Clear evidence of the potential for establishing a national reputation as a scholar or creative media producer is required. MA with extensive teaching record, media production portfolio, and recognized professional reputation will be considered. 2) Professor or Associate Professor: Full-time, tenure track faculty position with an emphasis in media production. Principal expertise may be in television, film, or new media, with demonstrated record of scholarly or creative work. Candidate must be able to teach and direct graduate and undergraduate students in advanced film/digital video/audio production and provide leadership for the media production faculty. Additional expertise in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: scriptwriting, film/media studies, electronic journalism or new technologies. In addition to teaching and continued scholarly/creative activity, responsibilities will include supervision of independent student projects, curriculum development, and serving as a liaison with the professional media production community. Qualifications: PhD or MFA in Media Arts and/or Studies (film, television, and/or new media) with substantial record of scholarly or creative work and evidence of continued productivity. The Department of Communication offers programs leading to the BA, MA, and PhD in Communication with majors in communication, speech communication, communication education, media arts and studies, film studies, journalism, public relations, and communication studies. The Department?s facilities include a broadcast-quality video studio and digital video editing suites. Wayne State University is a research extensive, urban institution enrolling more than 31,000 students in 350 undergraduate and graduate programs offered through the university?s 14 schools and colleges. The campus is located in Detroit?s Midtown Cultural Center. Wayne State?s neighbors in the Midtown Cultural Center include the Detroit Public Library, Detroit Institute of Arts and its Detroit Film Theater, Detroit Science Center, Charles Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit Historical Museum, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Michigan Opera Theatre. The nearby New Center and Downtown areas are also home to active theatres, galleries, and entertainment venues ranging from Second City-Detroit to Detroit Artist Market and the Fox and Fisher theatres.
