The University of California, San Diego, Department of Communication (http://communication.ucsd.edu/) is seeking to fill a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2003: The Department of Communication announces a tenure-track position for a scholar with a primary research and teaching interest in the political economy of cultural industries--television, film, music, publishing, or other cultural industries, including internet industries, and the way cultural production is affected by the interplay of the old and new economies. We are especially interested in work on the nature of media markets or the production process, regulation and the relation of cultural industries to the state, or relations between the cultural industry and other political actors, including social movements. This could also include a focus on the way race, gender, ethnicity, national identity or sexuality shape -- or are shaped by -- cultural industries.
